Seriously Final Kitchen Plans

For real this time. The main differences from the last plans are the placement of the sink, the upper cabinets which now have glass inserts (which I love), and there is no upper corner wall cabinet. No more changes will be made (whoohoo)! Seriously, we ordered these last weekend (so no suggestions, that means you mom =).

And here are the cabinets we ordered for the kitchen in the apartment.

And below, is the apartment kitchen with a breakfast bar.
The breakfast bar and the cabinets above it have not been ordered yet...
...so suggestions are welcome =).

The cabinets and appliances will be arriving next Saturday (Halloween), and judging by the progress our contractors have made so far, they will probably be installed sometime next year. Sigh.

Final Kitchen Design

Progress on the house has been painfully slow these last couple of weeks. The kitchens and bathroom have been gutted and the exterior paint went up this Friday (pictures of this after we swing by the house this afternoon). Now we are just waiting for the permits in order to start the plumbing and electrical work. I finalized our plan for the kitchen with our contractor last week in order to submit the permits. Here are some screen shots from the Ikea Home Planner (which has been an awesome tool). We decided to go with the White Ädel ("Shaker Style") cabinets because they are truer to the character and period of the house.

Here's what the Ädel cabinets look like in real life.

Kitchen Design Option # 2

I just received the preliminary designs from the second kitchen designer we met with. I have to be honest, I really did not like the general contractor from this company; he was quite abrasive and rude. I did like the kitchen designer although he doesn't like using ikea cabinets, so that's a definite negative since I actually quite like ikea's cabinets (not only for their price but for the organization system on the interior of the cabinets). What I do like, is this design. It's actually closer to my original idea for the kitchen.

The main difference between these new designs and the first ones, is that the sink has been moved to the left side of the kitchen under the window. This will be a little bit more expensive because we have to move the plumbing from where the original sink is now, but I think it might be worth it.

Layouts

Here are some basic drawings I did of the first and second floors of the house just to give an idea of the space.

Kitchen Design Option # 1

We received kitchen designs from the first estimator last Thursday. We still have a couple more estimates that we are waiting for, but here's what we've got so far!
